Botox Q & A

What causes lines to develop on my face?

Every time you smile, squint, frown, or furrow your brow in concentration, the muscles in your face contract, pulling your skin into expression lines. As time goes by, these repeated contractions lead to lines that become increasingly etched into your skin, especially on the top half of your face around your eyes, forehead, and brows.

These types of lines are called dynamic wrinkles. They smooth out when your muscles relax, but reappear quickly the moment you make an expression.

How does Botox work?

Botox contains onabotulinumtoxinA, which temporarily reduces the muscle activity responsible for many of the wrinkles and fine lines on your face. Dr. Furze administers Botox through injections, which he strategically places in your muscles to inhibit the release of neurotransmitters that cause your muscles to contract.

Where can Botox be used?

Dr. Fuze uses Botox to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe:

  • Crow’s-feet
  • Frown lines
  • Forehead lines

Dr. Furze also uses Botox to treat wrinkles in your upper lip and on the top of your nose and he can use the cosmetic injectable to slightly raise your eyebrows and the corners of your mouth.

Please note that Dr. Furze only offers Botox to patients who are 21 and older.

When will I see results from my Botox treatment?

After your treatment, which typically takes less than 10 minutes, your results appear over the next 24-48 hours. There’s no downtime after your Botox treatment, which means you’re free to go about your normal day directly afterward. Some patients experience mild bruising at the injection site, but this side effect is usually short-lived.

As a plastic surgeon and face and neck specialist, Dr. Furze understands how to use Botox to achieve natural results that don’t look “frozen.” Instead, he artfully administers the Botox in such a way that revitalizes your appearance for a more youthful and alert look.

Your Botox results should last between three and five months, at which point you simply return for a follow-up treatment.
