Derma-Fillers and Hyaluronic Acid

Derma-Fillers

Injectable fillers are an effective, non-surgical way to add fullness and volume to the skin while smoothing away moderate to severe wrinkles and folds. At Facial Plastic Surgery OC, Dr. Furze uses a variety of premium fillers currently available on the market: Juvederm Ultra Plus XC®, Restylane®, and Belotero Balance®.

All three products are prescription injections made with unique formulations of hyaluronic acid, which is naturally-occurring in our bodies and eventually broken down and absorbed by the body anywhere between three to 12 months. Dr. Furze is also experienced in using Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Belotero Balance® for treatment of nasojugal grooves or tear troughs, which are the lines that arise from loss of volume in the mid-cheeks under the lower eyelids, resulting in loose skin draping over the cheeks.

These lines are an early sign of aging around the eyes, which often lead to fatigued and aged facial appearance. The skin within the nasojugal groove can also become thinner and/or darker in color, which makes the crease appear deeper. With the help of Dr. Furze, these fillers can be used to fill the hollowness under the eyes and reduce the appearance of dark, under-eye bags. Additionally, hyaluronic acid fillers have been shown to last far longer in the tear trough area than it does in the lips and nasolabial folds, with most patients seeing results for up to a year or a year and a half.

Often promoted as the fountain of youth, hyaluronic acid is not an acid, but rather a naturally-occurring polysaccharide found in the human body which acts as a cushioning and lubrication agent for our hair, skin, eyes, nerves, and joints. In fact, about 50% of the body’s supply of hyaluronic acid is located in the skin tissues, where it helps keep skin plump, soft, and supple. Unfortunately, the body’s ability to produce declines with age, which can lead to increased fine lines, wrinkles, and sagging. That’s where Dr. Furze can help! Since these fillers are injected under the skin, they are an effective, minimally-invasive, non-surgical option for aging skin. Hyaluronic acid molecules retain more than 1,000 times their weight in water, so they act like a sponge to hydrate your cells from the inside, and plump up your skin for a supple, full look on the outside.
